HLC local produce research project

During May-June 2023, Healthy Loddon Campaspe commissioned researchers from Deakin University to conduct research into the price of fruit and vegetables at a variety of retailers across our region available during Autumn. Researchers analysed the price of 10 fruits and 27 vegetables that are most commonly consumed by the Australian population and can be feasibly grown in our region.

A total of 60 stores were audited across City of Greater Bendigo, Campaspe Shire, Macedon Ranges Shire, Mount Alexander Shire, Central Goldfields Shire, and Loddon Shire. Of these, 34 were small supermarkets, 17 were large supermarkets, six were greengrocers and three were farmers market stalls.

Healthy Loddon Campaspe will replicate this research methodology to also explore the price of fruits and vegetables across Winter, Spring and Summer, so that data is available across all seasons.

Check out the detailed reports HERE.
