HLC projects recently delivered across the region
The latest round of Healthy Loddon Campaspe (HLC) projects have recently wrapped up, delivering multiple benefits to communities across Greater Bendigo, Campaspe, Central Goldfields, Loddon, Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander Shires.
HLC activation projects focus on creating healthy spaces, places and practices to support an increase in physical activity and healthy eating amongst our communities. They are designed based on community-level data and local stakeholder and community engagement. Projects are outcomes focused and aim to advance equity, create opportunities for scale-up and keep sustainability front of mind.
Over 30 local projects were delivered in HLC's last round, in partnership with participating LGAs and local organisations.
Projects delivered include:
- The initiation of the Pyramid Hill Golf Trail parkrun, in partnership with Loddon Shire and Pyramid Hill Progress Association;
- HLC Healthy Sports Rewards project implemented in over 30 local junior sporting clubs in Campaspe and Loddon Shires, supporting local clubs to replace traditional fast food vouchers and rewards with healthier, locally sourced options;
- Working with 17 local schools in five LGAs to deliver the HLC Healthy Schools Project - implementing tailored initiatives to create a supportive environment for physical activity and healthy eating;
- A variety of physical activity projects like skateboarding workshops, the Light Up The Night project, Sports Equipment Libraries and outdoor fitness equipment sessions, designed to promote being active in local, outdoor spaces; and
- Various healthy eating projects to encourage growing, cooking and eating healthy food. Examples included Veg on the Verge, food growing in Heathcote, Growing in Campaspe project, and the Edgy Veg Awards.
Data from a large proportion of project participants showed increased rates of confidence, knowledge and skills in healthy eating and physical activity, highlighting the impact of the projects in the community.
