Walk This Way project launches to encourage locals to get active in Inglewood and Pyramid Hill.

Healthy Loddon Campaspe, a State Government-funded initiative aimed at improving health outcomes in the region, is launching Walk This Way, a new physical activity project that encourages incidental and affordable physical activity in Inglewood and Pyramid Hill.

The Walk This Way project includes:

  • A series of fun footpath stickers to encourage children and adults alike to be active in Inglewood and Pyramid Hill;
  • The installation of seating along walking paths in Inglewood and Pyramid Hill; and
  • The development of a new mapped walking loop in Inglewood township.

The project will be launched with school students and community members walking the Inglewood loop and testing out the physical activity footpath stickers for the first time on Thursday 16 May at 2pm.

The footpath stickers, which will be installed in front of schools and kinders in Inglewood and Pyramid Hill, will encourage local children to undertake activities such as hopscotch, jump from square to square, and balance along the line to increase their incidental activity whilst out and about.

New accessible seating has also been installed along footpaths in both towns to provide rest stops for residents whilst they’re walking.

Director of Community Wellbeing at Loddon Shire, Wendy Gladman said “Loddon Shire is delighted to be supporting Healthy Loddon Campaspe on the Walk This Way project.”

“The installation of new seating and fun footpath activities in Inglewood and Pyramid Hill will encourage locals of all abilities and fitness levels to be more active, more often in the towns.”

The project also includes the creation of a mapped walking loop around Inglewood township. Healthy Loddon Campaspe and Loddon Shire worked together with Victoria Walks to develop the most appropriate and accessible walking loop, taking into account footpath access, road crossings and traffic.

Mrs Gladman said “The creation of a mapped walking route in Inglewood, incorporating the community garden at Inglewood and Districts Health Service, as well as highlighting rest stops, free drinking water locations, and points of interest, will also support the community to be physically active in the town.”

"The Active Living Census data told us that walking is the most popular way to be active in Loddon Shire. Through Healthy Loddon Campaspe’s creation of the Walk This Way project, we're making it even easier and more enticing for residents to walk and be active in our towns."

Community members are invited to come along to the launch event on Thursday 16 May at 2pm, starting at Inglewood and District Health Services at 3 Hospital Street, Inglewood.

There will be afternoon tea, smoothie bikes and a goodie bag for everyone who attends to celebrate the launch of the project.
